Cougars drop series opener to in-state rival
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Softball team's comeback came up short as the Cougars fell to Baylor, 5-3, in the series opener on Friday night at Cougar Softball Stadium.
Redshirt sophomore Nicole Bodeux (3-3) suffered the loss for Houston (20-14, 3-8 Big 12) after giving up three runs (two earned) in her sixth start of the season. Lillie Walker (6-6) picked up the complete-game win, spinning all seven innings while ceding three runs on 11 hits and a walk.
Player Highlights

After Brooklyn Carter reached on a single to start the game and stole second, she came across to score on an error to take the lead. Another run scored on an error on a sacrifice bunt while a sacrifice fly later in the frame put Baylor up 3-0.
5th | After Baylor extended its advantage with a two-run homer in the third, Houston got on the board in the fifth. Wilkins led off the inning with a single up the middle. Pinch-hitting, sophomore Bethany Aguilar dropped a sacrifice bunt that Wilkins used to advance to third then scored on a throwing error to make the score 5-1.

After Wilkins advanced to third on the throw, she later crossed home as Aguilar singled up the middle. Wells kept the rally alive with a second consecutive single, but Baylor turned a double play to seize the momentum, ending the game with a strikeout to secure a 5-3 win.
