Hartley tallies 20th homer of the season; Houston ends 2026 campaign with loss at Arizona

TUCSON, Ariz. – The University of Houston Softball team capped off its 2026 season, falling 15-4 against #20 Arizona at Hillenbrand Stadium on Sunday.

The Cougars (20-31, 3-21 Big 12) recorded six hits on the day highlighted by sophomore Maddie Hartley's two-run homer in the top of the first. The Wildcats (34-13, 15-6 Big 12) followed up and strung together multi-run innings in the first three frames, closing out the series finale in five innings.

NOTABLES

Hartley recorded her 20th homer of the season, becoming the second player in program history to hit 20+ homers in a single season and the first since Haley Outon in 2012 (22).
With Hartley's homer, the 2026 Cougars finish with the second-most single season home runs in program history with 70, trailing only the 2008 Houston campaign (73).
Senior Kylei Griffin tallied her eighth career multi-hit game and fifth of the season, marking her fourth in the last eight games.
Redmond extended her hit streak to six games with a double to deep left field in the fifth inning.
Sophomore Savanna Luther's single in the fourth inning marks her fifth of the season.
Junior Jordee Wilkins tallied her fourth hit of the season with a single up the middle in the top of the fourth.

KEY INNINGS
1^st | After sophomore Makenna Mitchell reached first via throwing error at second, Hartley delivered a belter to deep left field for her 20^th homer of the season to give Houston a 2-0 lead early.

5^th | With runners on second and third, a grounder from sophomore Madox Mitchael plated Redmond to tack on another run in the fifth. Griffin followed up with a chopper up the middle to score Hartley from third, cutting the deficit to 15-4.
