Houston drops series to in-state rival
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Softball lost to Baylor in both games of a doubleheader on Sunday at Cougar Softball Stadium.
After powering their way to victory in the first game, 14-6, the Bears (18-21, 7-8 Big 12) outlasted Houston (20-16, 3-10 Big 12) in a pitchers' duel in game two, 2-1.
GAME ONE | BAYLOR 14 – HOUSTON 6
Lexie Warncke (5-6) picked up the win in relief in the first game of the day, spinning 4.2 innings while allowing seven hits and four runs (three earned). Sophomore Gigi Solis (3-3) suffered the loss after receiving the start, giving up seven runs in two innings.

2nd | After Baylor grabbed the lead with a pair of runs in the top of the first, they added five more in the second.
Houston got on the board in the bottom of the frame. Back-to-back singles put a pair of runners on while a sacrifice bunt moved them both to scoring position. Wilkins then drove sophomore Bethany Aguilar home with a groundout to push the score to 7-1.
4th | Following junior Mandy Esman's run in the third, Houston added another two in the fourth. A walk and hit-by-pitch put two runners on for Wells, who drove home sophomore Kayley Prudhomme with a single to left field and advanced to second on the throw, leaving a pair of runners in scoring position. Esman plated the second run of the frame with a sac-fly that allowed freshman Madox Mitchael to score, shrinking the deficit to three.
7th | Baylor extended its lead by four in the fifth and added two runs in the top of the seventh. Mitchell hit her seventh homer of the year in the bottom of the frame to cut into the lead, but Houston's comeback came up short as the Cougars fell, 14-6.
GAME TWO | BAYLOR 2 – HOUSTON 1
Freshman Rylee Michalak (4-3) took the loss in game two after throwing two innings in her 10th start of the season. Lillie Walker (6-6) earned the win with a complete-game in the circle, giving up one run on four hits and five walks.

Ultimately, Baylor's Walker shut the door after, securing a 2-1 win for the Bears.
UP NEXT
Houston is back on the road next weekend for a series at Texas Tech. After starting the series at 6 p.m., Friday, the two teams play a rematch at 4 p.m., Saturday, before closing the weekend at noon, Sunday.
