Houston competes in second-consecutive road Big 12 weekend series in Battle of the Cougars
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Softball team is set to cap off the final three games of a seven-game road trip against BYU on the weekend.
The Big 12 road series against BYU runs on April 9-11 with game one set to start at 7 p.m., Thursday. The teams then meet again at 7 p.m., Friday, before a 1 p.m., Saturday, finale.

FIRST PITCH
- Houston comes off its first Big 12 series victory of the season against Baylor, where it produced the longest game in program history by both innings (15) and game time (4:51). The game also ranks as the longest regular season game in Big 12 history.
- Junior Gigi Solis now holds the new program record for innings pitched in a single game with 12.2 against Baylor, besting Kenna Wilkey's 10.2 against Wichita State on April 14, 2023.
- Sophomore Maddie Hartley and junior Makenna Mitchell both currently sit on 15 homers each this season, joining a three-way tie of seventh place for single-season home runs in program history with Jennifer Klinkert (2008). The duo also shares a tie for second in the Big 12 leaderboards for homers this season.
- Mitchell enters the series with a team-leading 12 doubles this season, sitting one shy of entering the program single-season top 10 list in a tie for sixth.
- Freshman Ronnie Esparza is the latest freshman to make her mark on the home run tracker, producing her first two career homers in the same game to secure the series victory against Baylor.
- Houston currently sits on 58 home runs this season, ranking fourth all-time in program history while two shy of becoming the third team in program history to reach the 60 mark (73 in 2008, 67 in 2011). 12 Cougars have contributed to the season's total.
- Sophomore pitcher Nevaeh Brown has five complete games this season while also sitting one win away from her first 10+ win season. Brown has struck out the sixth most batters amongst Big 12 pitchers (73) while ranking second in innings pitched (114.1).
- The Cougars are currently ranked 21st nationally with 58 homers this season, ranking fourth in the Big 12 only behind Texas Tech (82), Kansas (68) and Arizona State (67).
- Mitchell ranks second in the Big 12 in assists with 90 on the season, trailing only UCF's Aubrey Evans (92).
- Sophomore Isabel Cintron ranks second in the Big 12 in runners caught stealing with six on the season, only four behind UCF's Beth Damon (12).

GAMEDAY CLEAR BAG POLICY
To provide a safer environment for the public and to significantly expedite fan entry into all of Houston Athletics competition sites, Houston Athletics has implemented the clear bag policy it implements at TDECU Stadium and Fertitta Center at the remainder of its facilities (Schroeder Park, Cougar Softball Stadium and Carl Lewis International Complex [soccer and track and field] and the Athletics Alumni Center/Yeoman Fieldhouse).
The following items are allowed inside all ticketed UH Athletics events:
- Bags that are clear plastic, vinyl or PVC and do not exceed 12 inches x 6 inches x 12 inches
- 1-gallon clear plastic freezer bag (Ziploc or similar)
- A small clutch purse no larger than 4.5 inches by 6.5 inches, with or without a handle or strap (These small clutches remain subject to search)
Exceptions will be made for medically necessary items after proper inspection at the doors by arena personnel. Items such as backpacks, purses and diaper bags are not permitted, and fans are strongly encouraged to not bring any bags to Houston Athletics facilities.
