PREVIEW: Cougars Set to Face Aggies, Compete at Longhorn Invitational

Houston meets Texas A&M on Thursday; begin final tournament weekend at Longhorn Invitational in Austin
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Softball team is set for its final tournament weekend of the season, opening with a single-game matchup at No. 13/15 Texas A&M before competing at the Longhorn Invitational starting Friday, Feb. 27 in Austin.
The Cougars take on the Aggies at 6 p.m., Thursday in College Station.
Houston will then play back-to-back doubleheaders on Friday and Saturday against St. Bonaventure (3:30 p.m.) and No. 3/3 Texas (6 p.m.) followed by Incarnate Word (noon) and Prairie View A&M (7:30 p.m.). The Cougars will then cap off the weekend with a single-game rematch against the Panthers at noon, Sunday.

- Houston is off to its best start to a season in program history under a first-year head coach, sitting at 11-3 through 14 games (Kyla Holas: 4-10, Kristin Vesely: 5-9).
- Mitchell and Hartley along with sophomore Nevaeh Brown were recognized as Top Performers following week two by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA). The recognition marks Brown and Hartley's second of the season.
- The Cougar trio of sophomore Maddie Hartley, junior Makenna Mitchell and sophomore Ariel Redmond lead the Big 12 Conference in home runs, sweeping the podium with nine, seven and six, respectively.
- Hartley looks to continue her phenomenal start to the season, leading the Cougars in the following categories: batting average (.439), slugging percentage (1.220), hits (18), home runs (9), RBIs (16) and doubles (5).
- Houston's bats have been flying early this season, having matched last season's home run total (32) in just 14 games this season.
- The Cougars are one of eight teams nationally with 30+ homers this season, leading the Big 12 by six (Texas Tech - 26) while ranking fifth nationally in total home runs (32) and fourth in homers per game (2.29).
