Cougars can’t contain late surge from Knights
Redshirt sophomore Nicole Bodeux (3-6) allowed just two hits through the first four innings, but ended up taking the loss for Houston (22-21, 4-15 Big 12). Isabella Vega (10-4) secured the win for the Knights (29-21-1, 9-12 Big 12) ceding no runs on two hits in 3.2 innings in the circle.
Player Highlights
- Jordee Wilkins: 1-1, R, BB, SH
- Ariel Redmond: 1-3, 2B
- Isabel Cintron: 0-2, R, 2 BB
- Houston drew five walks in the game, bringing its season total to 232. The mark ties the Cougars' 2006 mark for the second most in a season in team history.
- Sophomore Jordee Wilkins stole her ninth base of the season.
- Houston turned two double plays, its fourth time this season posting multiple in a game.
1st | Houston grabbed the lead in the first, capitalizing on a UCF miscue to take a 1-0 edge as Wilkins advanced two bases on an infield error.
3rd | The Cougars expanded on their lead in the third. A walk and two singles loaded the bases allowed junior Mandy Esman to drive home her 15th run of the season with a sac fly, pushing the lead to two.
UCF answered in the bottom of the inning as it plated a run on a Houston error to cut the deficit to one.
5th | The Knights grabbed the lead in the fifth. A single, error and sacrifice bunt put two UCF runners in scoring position and a single up the middle from Sierra Humphreys allowed the tying run to score. A groundout later in the inning pushed another run across for the lead while Ashleigh Griffin singled home Humphreys to put UCF up 4-2.
6th | Another UCF rally clinched the run-rule in the sixth. After a run scored on a wild pitch, the Knights added another as Madison Simon singled to right. A second consecutive single put a second runner on while Stormy Kotzelnick extended UCF's edge to 7-2. Griffin ended the game later in the frame with a three-run homer to seal a 10-2 win.
