Knights steal first game of the series in Orlando
ORLANDO, Fla. – The University of Houston Softball team came up short in a 4-2 loss to UCF in the first game of a three-game series on Friday night at UCF Softball Complex.
Â
Redshirt sophomore Nicole Bodeux (3-5) suffered the loss after a strong start, giving up two runs on three hits and a walk. She had started the game retiring eight Knights (28-20-1, 8-11 Big 12) in a row for Houston (21-20, 3-14 Big 12) and faced just two batters over the minimum through four innings. Kaitlyn Felton (12-4) picked up the win in relief, spinning three innings where she allowed three hits and two runs while walking three.

Key Innings
5th | After Bodeux and UCF's Isabella Vega combined to allow just two hits through the first four innings, the Knights broke the stalemate in the fifth. A walk and single put runners on the corners for UCF and Madison Simon capitalized with a sac-fly to center. Aubrey Evans extended the lead in the next at-bat with a two-run homer while a bases-loaded walk later in the frame put UCF ahead 4-0.
Â
7th | Following a scoreless sixth, Houston attempted a comeback in the seventh. A pair of walks and a fielder's choice put runners on the corners and freshman Isabel Cintron put the Cougars on the board with a single that plated sophomore Bethany Aguilar. Wells singled to load the bases and Mitchell shrunk the deficit to two with a groundout that scored sophomore Jordee Wilkins. Ultimately, the late effort came up short as a groundout sealed the 4-2 win for UCF.Â
