Cougars Fall to #14/#14 Texas Tech

LUBBOCK, Texas – The University of Houston Softball team dropped its Saturday afternoon contest to #14/#14 Texas Tech, 6-2, at Rocky Johnson Field.

Redshirt sophomore Nicole Bodeux (3-4) suffered the loss in the circle for the Cougars (20-18, 3-12 Big 12), tossing three innings while allowing six hits and four runs. Texas Tech's (33-9, 13-1 Big 12) NiJaree Canady (17-4) picked up her second win of the weekend in relief while Samantha Lincoln secured her second save of the year.

Notables

Sophomore Jordee Wilkins has reached base in 18 straight games, extending Houston's longest streak of the season.
Sophomore Makenna Mitchell hit her eighth homer of the season, tying her with freshman Brooke Wells for the team lead.
Mitchell posted her 10^th multi-RBI game of the season.

Key Innings
1^st | Houston struck first in the game. Wilkins drew a lead-off walk, setting the table for Mitchell to hit a two-run homer to left field, putting the Cougars up 2-0.

Texas Tech responded with a run of its own in the bottom of the inning, but Houston maintained a 2-1 lead through one.

2^nd | The Red Raiders tied the game in the second. Back-to-back singles followed by a sacrifice bunt put two players in scoring position while Raegan Jennings singled through the left side to drive home a run for Texas Tech.

4^th | After evening the score at 2-2 in the second, the Red Raiders claimed the lead in the home half of the fourth. A trio of walks loaded the bases and a Lauren Allred single up the middle plated two to give Texas Tech a 4-2 edge.

A two-run homer in the sixth finalized the scoring, clinching a 6-2 win for the Red Raiders.
