Key Innings
2nd | After Iowa State grabbed an early lead with a run in the first, Houston answered in the second. Mitchell led off the inning with a walk and reached second on a sacrifice bunt from Wilkins. A single off the bat of Mitchael put her on third and she came around to score as Prudhomme reached on an infield single.Â
Â
3rd | The Cougars grabbed the lead in the third. Wells reached on a triple to right and Mitchell hit her first homer of the game, a 222-foot shot to center field, to make the score 3-1.Â
Â
4th | After Iowa State cut into the lead with a solo homer in the top of the fourth, Houston extended its lead in the home half of the frame. Two singles and a sacrifice bunt put runners on the corners and freshman Isabel Cintron drove home Prudhomme with a fielder's choice to push the Cougars' edge back to two. Wells, Mitchell and Wilkins then followed it up with three straight homers to push Houston's advantage to 8-2.Â
Â
6th | The Cyclones plated two in the fifth and tied the game in the sixth. Two walks allowed a pair of runners to reach base and Jessie Clemons hit a three-run homer that put the deficit at one. Iowa State evened the score at 8-all as a run scored on a single later in the inning.
Â
8th | Iowa State claimed the lead for good in the first frame of extra innings. Following a leadoff double, Reagan Bartholomew hit a two-run homer to give the Cyclones a 10-8 win.Â
