Houston Falls to #3/#3 Florida

HOUSTON – The University of Houston Softball team dropped its midweek tilt to #3/#3 Florida, 11-0, in five innings on Wednesday night at Cougar Softball Stadium.

Sophomore Gigi Solis (3-2) suffered the loss in the circle for Houston (14-6). Earning the start, she allowed four runs on six hits in 2.1 innings in the circle. Kara Hammock (5-0) secured the win, spinning four innings while allowing only one hit.

Key Innings
1^st | Florida took the lead in the first with a solo home run off the bat of Taylor Shumaker. The Gators added another run later in the frame as Mia Williams singled with the bases loaded to put Florida up 2-0.

3^rd | A pair of solo homers added two more runs for Florida while a two-run single later in the innings further extended the Gators' edge to 6-0.

4^th | Shumaker plated another three runs with a bases-loaded double that cleared the bases, putting the game into run-rule territory at 9-0. The Gators would add another two runs in the fifth to claim an 11-0 win.

UP NEXT
Houston opens conference play this weekend as Iowa State visits Cougar Softball Stadium for the first time since Houston joined the Big 12 Conference. The three-game series starts at 6 p.m., Friday, before a 2 p.m., Saturday, tilt. The teams close the weekend at noon, Sunday. Fans can purchase tickets HERE and can watch the series on ESPN+.
