Cougars defeat Utes behind four-run third

Redshirt sophomore Nicole Bodeux (2-2) twirled her first career complete game to secure the win. She struck out four while allowing eight hits and just two runs for Houston (19-13, 3-7 Big 12). Shelbee Jones (6-10) took the loss for Utah (12-24, 4-5 Big 12), ceding five runs on six hits and three walks.Â

- Bodeux threw Houston's second complete game this season.
- Sophomore Jordee Wilkins hit her fourth triple of the season, the most by a Cougar since Lindsey Stewart hit five in 2019. The mark is also tied for sixth most in team history.
- Houston has seven triples this season, its most since hitting eight in 2021.Â
- The Cougars have scored 200 runs this season, averaging 6.25 per game.Â
- Wilkins and freshman Brooke Wells both reached base in their 12th consecutive games. The mark continues a new season-long for Wilkins while Wells ties her season-long streak.Â
Key Innings
3rd | Houston broke the game open in the third. Wilkins kicked things off with a double to left field while a walk from freshman Maddie Hartley and a hit-by-pitch from Wells loaded the bases. Sophomore Makenna Mitchell picked up her 29th RBI of the year by driving home Wilkins to start the scoring while freshman Isabel Cintron drew a walk to reload the bases.Â

Freshman Madox Mitchael earned an RBI with an infield single to push the score to 2-0 with sophomore Mandy Esman immediately following up with a single up the middle to score another two runs for Houston.

4th | The Cougars added another run in the fourth. Wilkins tripled to center field to put a runner in scoring position and Wells drove her home with Houston's 13th sacrifice fly of the year.Â

6th | Down by five, Utah got on the board in the sixth. After Emily Capobianco doubled down the right field line, Proctor cut the deficit to three with a two-run homer to center.

Bodeux shut the door after, clinching a 5-2 win for Houston.

Houston remains on the road, heading to Lamar for a 5:30 p.m., Tuesday, tilt against the Cardinals.Â
