Houston loses game one in battle of the Cougars
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Softball team dropped its series opener to BYU, 9-0, in six innings on Thursday night at Cougar Softball Stadium.
Freshman Rylee Michalak (4-2) suffered the loss for Houston (17-9, 2-3 Big 12) after surrendering four runs to start the game. BYU's (17-6, 2-2 Big 12) Kaysen Korth picked up the win, twirling five of the team's six innings in the circle and ceding just two hits.

1st | BYU claimed the lead in the first. A single and pair of walks loaded the bases for BYU, who then drew a pair of bases-loaded walks to plate two runs. Back-to-back singles off the bats of Maddi Udall-Woolley and Miranda Mansfield added another two runs to put BYU up by four after one.
5th | After BYU added a run in the second, the Provo, Utah, based team added another run on a fielder's choice in the fifth.
6th | BYU put the game in run-rule territory with two consecutive homers in the sixth. Ilove'a Brittingham sent a two-run shot over the center field fence to push BYU's lead to eight while Lindy Milkowski immediately followed it up with a solo homer to left, clinching a 9-0 win for BYU.
UP NEXT
Houston continues its three-game set against BYU at 6 p.m., Friday. The game is Houston's Bark in the Park night with fans encouraged to bring their four-legged friend to the ballpark (limit one dog per adult fan). Fans will also have the opportunity to receive a throwback t-shirt while supplies last.
The teams then conclude the series at noon, Saturday. Houston will celebrate its 25th anniversary season with alumni recognized throughout the game while the first 150 fans will receive a 25th anniversary commemorative ticket in celebration of the event.
