Houston downs rv Boise State for second time this weekend
SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The University of Houston Softball team won the Birds Up Bash, hosted by UTSA, by defeating rv Boise State, 15-11, on Sunday at Roadrunner Field.
Houston's (14-5) offense shined, going 13-for-34 (.382) at the plate with five extra-base hits, including a pair of homers, as well as 10 walks. Freshman Nevaeh Brown (5-0) secured the win, throwing 3.1 innings while allowing four hits and two runs. Shannon Keighran (3-1) suffered the loss, giving up three runs on two hits in 1.2 innings in the circle.

3rd | After the teams traded runs in the second, Houston broke the game open in the third. With the bases loaded, Wilkins drew a walk to put Houston in front, 2-1. Mitchael singled home two in the next at bat, followed by another two RBI single off the bat of Aguilar to make the score 6-1.
4th | Houston added another two runs in the top of the fourth. Hartley drew a leadoff walk and two at-bats later, Wells hit her sixth homer of the season to extend the Cougars' edge to seven.
Boise State answered in the bottom half of the inning. Loading the bases via a double and pair of walks, back-to-back singles and a walk drove home three runs with another scoring on a wild pitch. A fielder's choice drove home the Bronco's fifth run of the inning to make the score 8-6. Sydney Groves hit a three-run homer later in the frame to put Boise State ahead, 9-8.
6th | The Cougars surged again in the sixth. Back-to-back walks put a pair of runners on and Wilkins drove one of them home to tie the game. Junior Mandy Esman immediately followed it up with another double in her first at-bat of the season to push the score to 11-9. A single and a walk loaded the bases and back-to-back walks plated another pair of runs for Houston. Wells picked up her third and fourth RBIs of the day with a two-run double to right-center, putting Houston up 15-9.
Boise State tried a seventh-inning comeback with a pair of runs in its last at-bat, but came up short, giving Houston a 15-11 win.

Houston hosts #3/#3 Florida at 6 p.m., Wednesday, before starting Big 12 Conference play next weekend as Iowa State visits Cougar Softball Stadium.
