
Cougars Sweep Day One at Birds Up Bash

Houston capitalizes on opportunities to earn pair of wins, including team’s fourth walk-off of the season
GAME ONE – HOUSTON 5, LE MOYNE 2
Pitching four innings in relief, freshman Rylee Michalak (2-0) earned the decision for Houston, allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits and a walk while striking out two. Redshirt sophomore Nicole Bodeux threw three innings to start the game for the Cougars, giving up no runs on two hits.
Arianna Exarchakis suffered the loss in the circle for Le Moyne (2-9) after ceding five runs (four earned) on four hits and seven walks.

- The win was Houston's 20th in program history by a score of 5-2.
1st | After reaching on a fielder's choice, stealing second and advancing to third on an error, a second defensive miscue by Le Moyne allowed Mitchell to put Houston on the board, giving the Cougars a 1-0 lead.
2nd | Sophomore Reece Cammarn led off the second with a double down the left-field line and took third on a sacrifice bunt from sophomore Kayley Prudhomme. Cammarn then scored on a wild pitch to extend Houston's lead to two.
3rd | Wilkins plated another run for Houston in the third. After reaching on a single and advancing to second on a hit from Redmond, Wilkins moved up to third as Aguilar grounded out then scored as a pitch went to the backstop to put Houston up by three.
5th | Wilkins led off the fifth by getting hit by a pitch and then Redmond put two runners in scoring position with a double to left field. Aguilar picked up an RBI as she singled through the right side, followed by a two-out RBI double from Prudhomme that plated Redmond to make the score 5-0.
The Dolphins answered in the bottom of the inning. After the leadoff hitter reached on an error and a fielder's choice put runners on the corners, a double steal attempt put Le Moyne on the board and kept a runner in scoring position. A fielder's choice later in the frame cut into the lead, however Houston shut the door to seal a 5-2 win.
GAME TWO – HOUSTON 9, rv BOISE STATE 8
Freshman Nevaeh Brown (3-0) earned the win in relief, spinning the last two innings in the circle for Houston. Abby Dowell took the loss for Boise State (12-4), allowing four runs (two earned) on three hits and four walks.

- Wilkins hit her third triple of the year in the game, tying her with Turiya Coleman's team-leading 2024 mark. The last time a Cougar hit more than three triples in a season was Lindsey Stewart in 2019.
- Junior Gabby Rawls hit her first career home run.
- Freshman Isabel Cintron drew three walks, the fifth time this season drew a trio of bases on balls.
2nd | Houston grabbed the early lead in its second game of the day. Wilkins led off the inning with a walk and Rawls put the Cougars up by two with a homer to left-center. After freshman Maddie Hartley and Cintron walked in back-to-back plate appearances to put a runners back on the basepaths, Mitchell drove them both home with a double to right-center.
5th | After Boise State cut into the lead with three runs in the third, the Broncos took the lead in the fifth. A walk, single and fielder's choice put runners on the corners and Makenzie Butt drove a run home to tie the game at 4-4. A stolen base put both remaining runners in scoring position and both came around to score on a single to center, putting Boise State ahead 6-4.
Houston cut into the deficit in the home half of the frame. A single, walk and fielder's choice put runners on the corners again and Wilkins scored on a wild pitch to make the score 6-5.
6th | The Cougars rallied again in the sixth. After two reached to start the inning, Wilkins clubbed a bases-clearing triple to put Houston back in front, 7-6.
7th | The Broncos answered in the top of the seventh. A double and single resulted in runners on first and third with a run then scoring on a wild pitch. After a walk and error loaded the bases, a sac-fly allowed the go-ahead run to score, putting the pressure on Houston.
For the fourth time this season, Houston rallied for the win in the final half inning, scoring both of its runs with two outs. Cintron drew a two-out walk while Mitchell was hit by a pitch to put the winning run on base. A single from Wells scored Cintron and Redmond singled up the middle to push home Mitchell, giving Houston a 9-8 win.
UP NEXT
Houston continues play at the Birds Up Bash on Saturday. After battling host UTSA at 1 p.m., the Cougars will be seeded based on results and will play at either 3:30 p.m. or 6 p.m.
