Tulimero hits first homer of year, Murray plunks scoreboard in midweek loss
Seniors Anthony Tulimero and Justin Murray each hit solo home runs in the game, while freshman Ace Reese legged out his team-leading fourth triple of the year.
Senior Brendan O'Donnell and sophomore Ryan Dollar twirled scoreless innings. O'Donnell entered in the sixth with a runner on before retiring three of the four batters he faced. Dollar worked a clean seventh inning before allowing two runners in the eighth, but two caught stealing's erased the base runners.
The Cougars (16-16) struck in the first inning on a solo home run off the bat of designated hitter Anthony Tulimero – his first of the season.
The Bearkats (20-13) took the tied the game in the bottom of the first on a double steal and then took the lead on its first of two triples in the game.
Houston tied the game in the second inning after Reese led off with his triple and he scored on a ground out. Five unanswered runs by Sam Houston gave the hosts a 7-2 lead, scoring two in the second on a two-run home run and three runs in the fourth.
Murray cut the lead to 7-3 on his solo home run in the fifth and Houston scored two more runs in the sixth after center fielder Jacob Schoenvogel doubled and third baseman Coby DeJesus singled.
Sam Houston tacked on its eighth run on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth.
Second baseman Harold Coll recorded his third three-hit game this year while Schoenvogel notched his first of the season.
