PREVIEW: Tennis Travels to #59 TCU and #32 Baylor

Cougars face TCU at 3:30 p.m., Friday, Baylor at 2 p.m., Sunday
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Tennis program hits the road for its first pair of Big 12 road matches to face #59 TCU at 3:30 p.m., Friday from the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center in Fort Worth, Texas, followed by a meeting against #32 Baylor at 2 p.m., Sunday at the Hurd Tennis in Waco, Texas.
Seniors Blanca Cortijo Parreno and Laura Slisane, and sophomore Sophie Schouten lead Houston (1-7, 0-2 Big 12) in singles with three victories each. In doubles, Schouten and sophomore Sonya Kovalenko have recorded four wins for the Cougars.
The Horned Frogs (6-2, 2-0 Big 12) are led in singles by Jade Otway with a 6-0 record. Otway and Isabel Pascual lead TCU in doubles with four wins on court two.
No. 101 Miska Kadleckova leads the Bears (8-5, 2-0 Big 12) with a 7-1 record in singles, including six wins on court one. Kadleckova owns a 7-1 record in doubles with partner Danielle Tuhten on court two.
LAST TIME OUT
Houston opened its inaugural Big 12 schedule hosting #26 Texas Tech and #45 BYU. The Cougars fell, 6-0, to the Red Raiders and, 4-0, to BYU.
In doubles, Texas Tech's Cristina Tiglea and Mariya Polishchuk defeated junior Maria Dzemeshkevich and Slisane, 6-1. Schouten and Kovalenko got out to a 3-1 lead before #7 Avelina Sayfetdinova and Metka Komac came storming back to win, 6-4, to clinch the doubles point for Texas Tech.
The Red Raiders took the next five points before play concluded due to rain.
Against BYU, it was a battle for the doubles point on all three courts as Kovalenko and Schouten took down Kendall Kovich and Emilee Astle, 6-2. BYU would clinch the doubles point on court three.
BYU took the next three points in singles to claim the match.
SERIES VS TCU
TCU holds a 27-7 advantage over the Cougars. The Horned Frogs have taken the previous eight meetings.
SERIES VS BAYLOR
Houston meets Baylor for just the ninth time in program history. The last time the two teams met, Baylor took a 6-1 decision in Waco (Jan. 21, 2023).
