Tennis Tumbles at #59 TCU

Cougars face #32 Baylor at 2 p.m., Sunday
FORT WORTH, Texas – The University of Houston Tennis program fell, 7-0, to #59 TCU at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center Friday afternoon.
DOUBLES
The Cougars (1-8, 0-3 Big 12) fought hard in doubles as junior Maria Dzemeshkevich and senior Laura Slisane downed Destinee Martins and Helena Narmont on court three, 6-2.
Sophomores Sophie Schouten and Sonya Kovalenko had an early advantage on court one, before Chiho Mushika and Yu-Chin Tsai fought back for a 6-4 win.
TCU (7-2, 3-0 Big 12) clinched the doubles point when Jade Otway and Isaebel Pascual took down sophomore Gabriela Cortes and senior Blanca Cortijo Parreno, 6-4.
SINGLES
TCU tacked on two quick singles points as Otway ousted Slisane, 6-2, 6-0, on court one, and Tsai defeated Cortes, 6-1, 6-1, on court four.
After dropping the first set on court two, Dzemeshkevich let an early set two-lead slip as Pascual responded to take the match, 6-0, 6-3.
On court five, the Horned Frogs pushed the lead to 6-0, when Narmont defeated Cortijo Parreno, 6-1, 6-4, and Kovalenko fell to Raquel Cabellero, 6-3, 6-3.
Schouten took the first set on court three, but #58 Martins took the next two to clinch the final point of the afternoon, 3-6, 6-2, 6-3.
UP NEXT
The Cougars head to Waco, Texas, to face #32 Baylor at 2 p.m., Sunday at the Hurd Tennis Center.
Houston returns to the Barbara Wallace Winson Tennis Facility to host #7 Texas at 1 p.m., Friday, March 15, and #20 Oklahoma at 1 p.m., Sunday, March 17.
Admission is free for all home Houston Tennis matches.
