Cougars fall, 4-1 to (10) Texas Tech in First Round of Big 12 Tournament
ORLANDO — The seventh-seeded University of Houston Tennis team fell, 4-1 to 10th-seeded Texas Tech in the First Round of the Big 12 Tennis Tournament on Wednesday afternoon at the USTA National Campus.
Houston (18-6) dropped the doubles point as seniors Sophie Schouten and Chems Doha Zeghlouli fell to #83 Hailey Murphy and Yekaterina Dmitrichenko, 6-1 on court one before juniors Elizaveta Morozova and Iva Sepa dropped a 6-3 decision to Mariia Hlahola and Elena Daskalova on court two.
Schouten earned her 17th win of the season and fifth match in a row as she defeated Ella Brownback, 6-2, 6-2, on court six to tie the match at one.
Texas Tech (17-9) jumped back ahead as Zeghlouli fell, 6-4, 6-2 to Dmitrichenko on court two.
The Red Raiders clinched the match with back-to-back wins on court five and one when Havana Kadi bested Drame, 6-3, 6-0 and Murphy defeated Morozova, 6-3, 6-4.
