National Championship winning assistant coach joins Cougar Tennis
HOUSTON — National Championship winning assistant coach Taylor Rodgers joins the University of Houston Tennis program as an assistant coach, Head Coach Valeriya Zeleva announced Friday.
"I am incredibly excited to welcome Taylor Rodgers to our coaching staff as our new assistant coach," Zeleva said. "Taylor brings tremendous experience and a history of success from every program he has been a part of. His knowledge of the game, attention to detail and commitment to excellence make him a great addition to our program. Having been part of a national championship team, he understands the standard, preparation, and mindset required to compete at the highest level.
"Taylor's passion for coaching and developing student-athletes is evident in everything he does. Our players will benefit from his experience, leadership, and work ethic. We are fortunate to have someone of his caliber join our staff, and I look forward to working alongside him as we continue moving our program forward."
Rodgers arrives back in Texas after spending the 2025 and 2026 seasons as an assistant coach at East Carolina.
Â
"My family and I are so excited to be headed back to our home state and to be a part of the Houston Cougar family," Rodgers said. "Val's energy and passion were evident right away, and I am very thankful for the opportunity to be a part of her vision for Houston Tennis."
Â
Before his time at ECU, Rodgers spent a season at Texas A&M where he helped the Aggies to a 28-7 overall record and a 12-1 mark in Southeastern Conference play. The Aggies won the SEC Regular Season title and finished as the SEC Tournament Runner Up.
Â
Texas A&M earned the No. 13 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament and defeated Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Oklahoma, North Carolina, Tennessee and Georgia en route to clinching the program's first National Championship.
Â
Prior to his stop in Aggieland, Rodgers spent the 2022-23 season as the director of operations at Tennessee where he oversaw the day-to-day operations of both Volunteer Tennis programs, inducing team travel, equipment, facilities, camps, special events and home match coordination. He served as the main contact for several campus events including the ITA Fall Regionals, Kick-Off Weekend, UTR Pro Series and NCAA Regional and Super Regionals
Â
After graduating from Abilene Christian, Rodgers served as a volunteer assistant coach and director of operations for the Wildcats' men's and women's programs.
Â
Rodgers helped the men's program claim the WAC Tournament Championship and earn the team's first NCAA Tournament berth. He also served as the Wildcats' recruiting coordinator, where he signed the first women's five-star recruit since 2017.
