#36 Tennis Closes Regular Season with Sweep of Cincinnati

Cougars close regular season with five straight wins, 18 overall
CINCINNATI — The #36 University of Houston Tennis team concluded its regular season slate with a 4-0 win over Cincinnati on Sunday afternoon at the Trabert-Talbert Tennis Center.
Houston (18-5, 8-5 Big 12) earned the doubles victory with a 2-1 advantage. Juniors Valeriia Krokhotina and Iva Sepa nabbed a 6-2 win on court three over Morgan Pyrz and Milica Popovski, and seniors Sophie Schouten and Chems Doha Zeghlouli defeated Sakurako Watanabe and Rozalia Gruszczynska, 6-4, on court one.
Cincinnati (8-14, 1-12 Big 12) took the middle court as Gabrielle Guenther and Tara Kurepa took down juniors Petja Drame and Elizaveta Morozova, 6-2.
In singles, three Cougars pitched a first set shutout but Krokhotina, Sepa and Schouten were the ones to make it to the finish line.
Krokhotina dropped just three games as she bested Watanabe 6-1, 6-2 on court three. After sweeping the first, Sepa took care of Kurepa, 6-4 in the second set. Schouten needed a second-set tiebreaker as she edged Popovski, 6-0, 7-6(2) on court five to clinch the mathc for the Cougars.
