Houston Drops Match at North Texas, 4-3

Cougars return to action against UTRGV and Louisiana Tech on Friday and Saturday
DENTON, Texas – The University of Houston Tennis program fell 4-3, in a hard-fought match against North Texas at the Waranch Tennis Facility on Sunday afternoon.
After Houston (1-1, 0-0 Big 12) dropped the doubles point, sophomore Sophie Schouten answered back on court three as she defeated Lou Chalard, 6-1, 6-3, to tie the match at one.
North Texas (3-1, 0-0 AAC) responded as Lily Shultz defeated senior Blanca Cortijo Parreno, 6-3, 6-4, on court six.
Both teams traded points as senior Laura Slisane battled Stanislava Shulzhenko, 7-5, 6-1, on court one, and sophomore Sonya Kovalenko fell to Carolina Laydner, 4-6, 1-6, on court four.
Freshman Nina Skoric tied the match at three as she took a back-and-forth battle on court five, 4-6, 6-1, 6-3, for her first collegiate win.
It came down to the third set on court two, but North Texas' Stadfany Nformi defeated junior Maria Dzemeshkevich, 2-6, 6-3, 6-2, to claim the match for the Mean Green, 4-3.
UP NEXT
The Cougars return to the Barbara Wallace Winston Tennis Facility to begin a six-game homestand beginning on Friday at 1 p.m., against UTRGV.
Houston closes out the weekend by welcoming Louisiana Tech at 10 a.m., Saturday.
Admission is free for all home Houston Tennis matches.
