
Houston Looks to Continue Win Streak

The Cougars host Florida Gulf Coast at 1 p.m. on Friday
HOUSTON – The Houston Women's Tennis team currently holds a 20 match-win streak at their home courts, the second longest in school history since 2007. The Cougars will look to continue their winning ways against Florida Gulf Coast at 1 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 15 at the Barbara Wallace Winston Tennis Facility.
Last week, Houston defeated their first American Athletic Conference opponent of the semester, Wichita State, 4-1 at their home courts. The Cougars dominated the match against the Shockers from top to bottom in the singles lineup, only dropping one match at Flight 1.
The following day, the Cougars battled Stephen F. Austin, topping the Ladyjacks 7-0 to finish the weekend on a high note. Freshmen Sophie Gerits, Jovana Vukovic and Stephanie Belovukovic, as well as junior Phonexay Chitdara were undefeated in both their singles and doubles matches. Houston won 11 out of the 12 singles matches played in the back-to-back weekend match-ups.
ABOUT THE EAGLES
Florida Gulf Coast comes into Houston on Friday with a 3-3 record, falling to #20 ranked Florida State in their last match, 4-0. The Eagles have also played South Florida and #17 Miami this season. Junior Maja Ornberg leads the team at Flight 1, boasting a 12-1 singles record last season. This season, she carries a 3-3 singles record, and 4-2 in doubles at Flight 1.

The Cougars will travel to Baton Rouge to face the LSU Tigers at noon on Sunday, Feb 17.
