Houston Softball Drops Two Games To Oregon

HOUSTON - An outstanding showing at the plate by freshman outfielder Kaylin Crumpton wasn't enough as Houston Softball dropped two games to No. 2 Oregon Tuesday afternoon.
The Cougars drop to 6-8 on the season while the Ducks stretched their win streak to 8-0.
Crumpton went 4-for-7 on the night, batting .571 against a top-ranking pitching staff. She also scored two runs and slugged 1.000.
The Houston defense turned two double plays against the Ducks, extending their streak to 12 double plays turned in 14 games.
Game 1 - OREGON 2, UH 0 - BOX SCORE
In game one, Houston held Oregon to just two runs marking the lowest scoring game for the Ducks this season. Through the first two innings, starting pitcher Julana Shrum (2-3) kept Oregon scoreless and only gave up one hit while striking out a batter.
The Cougars also forced Oregon to strand 10 runners on base while Houston only stranded four.
Game 2 - OREGON 10, UH 5 - BOX SCORE
During game two of the doubleheader, Oregon jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. The Cougars responded quickly as Katie St. Pierre and Crumpton each singled to the outfield. St. Pierre recorded her seventh stolen base to reach third and a fielder's choice grounder by shortstop Selena Hernandez knocked St. Pierre in.
Oregon scored a run in the second and third innings to take a 5-1 lead. Crumpton crushed a one-out solo home run over the center field fence, shortening the Ducks lead 5-2.
Cougars would rally again in the bottom of the fifth to score three runs against the Oregon defense to put Houston within one run of the No. 2 Ducks (6-5). But Oregon went on to score two runs in the final two innings.
Shelby Miller (1-3) took the loss for the Cougars as she allowed three earned runs off six hits and walked four batters.

To purchase tickets in person, fans can visit the Athletics Ticket Office located on the northeast corner of TDECU Stadium, just outside of Gate 1 off Cullen Boulevard. Parking is available in the TDECU Stadium parking garage with the first 30 minutes free of charge. Regular business hours are Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
All UH main campus students are admitted FREE to regular-season softball home games with a valid student ID.
