GAME SUMMARY
The Cougars' offense was rolling at the plate early in the game, tallying nine hits in the first five innings including three in the first and two each in the second and third. Just as in game one, Houston grabbed the first lead of the game as Jackson hit a leadoff homer to start the second inning.Â
Â
The one-run lead held until Arizona broke through with four in the fifth. Three straight singles scored Arizona's first run, and a sacrifice bunt gave the Wildcats a 2-1 lead. A two-run homer in the next at-bat from Carson McEntire put the home team up by three.Â
Â
Houston answered in the seventh. Back-to-back singles from Cox and Broussard put a pair on and Climie hit his 10th homer of the season to bring the score even at 4-4.Â
Â
The score remained tied through regulation, and the teams continued the stalemate until the 12th inning, when Houston broke through on an RBI double from Climie. Arizona tied the game again in the bottom of the inning as Maddox Mihalakis tripled home a run, but Houston kept its offense rolling in the 13th. After Fields reached on a single and Sabathia was hit by a pitch, LaLima broke the tie with a single to center that plated Fields. Cox singled in the next at-bat to load the bases and Broussard added another with a sacrifice fly that drove home Sabathia to push the lead to two.Â
Â
Rodriguez finished the win in the bottom of the inning, sitting down the Wildcats in order to finish the marathon.
