Cougars and Red Raiders face off in opening round of Big 12 Tournament
ORLANDO — The #36 (7) University of Houston Tennis team opens its postseason run in the Big 12 Tournament against #31 (10) Texas Tech at 9 a.m. CT Wednesday from the USTA National Campus.
Fans can tune in to the action throughout the tournament by watching on ESPN+ or by following live stats.
Houston (18-5) meets Texas Tech (16-9) for the second time this season after the Red Raiders handed the Cougars their first home loss in a 4-3 defeat (March 13).
The Red Raiders claimed the doubles point and got out to a 3-0 lead before the Cougars stormed back to tie the match behind singles points from juniors Iva Sepa and Valeriia Krokhotina and senior Sophie Schouten.
Texas Tech clinched the win as Havana Kadi bested junior Petja Drame in a 6-1, 7(8)-6(6) battle.
ABOUT HOUSTON
Houston is in its second season under the direction of Head Coach Katarina Adamovic and returns five starters from a season ago.

The Cougars got off to their best start since 1990 at 11-0, swept its first eight opponents for the first time in program history and were ranked as high as #29 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association team poll.

Houston is ranked #41 in this week's ITA team poll while coming in at #42 in the UTR team rankings.

Schouten leads the Cougars with a 16-1 singles record on court six. Krokhotina holds double fingers singles wins with 14 including a current seven match win streak.

Senior duo Zeghlouli and Schouten own a 13-5 doubles record on court one to go along with a 12-5record from Drame and Morozova on court three.
