Mitchell enters program single season doubles top 10 list; Griffin belts second homer of the season in loss

The Cougars (20-24, 3-14 Big 12) produced 10 hits on the night to reach double figures for a 13th time this season, charging for a comeback bid with multiple runs in the third and fifth innings. Closing in on the deficit to as little as two runs, BYU (13-26, 4-10 Big 12) pulled away with scores in the sixth and seventh innings to hold on to its lead late.

- Makenna Mitchell: 2-3, 2 R, 2B, BB
- Kylei Griffin: 2-4, HR, 3 RBI, R
- Mandy Esman: 2-4, RBI
- Senior Kylei Griffin recorded her second multi-hit outing this year highlighted by a two-run homer in the fifth inning, marking her second of the season and fifth of her career.
- Junior Makenna Mitchell produced her 13th double of the season, boosting her into an eight-way tie for sixth place in the program all-time single-season top 10 doubles list.
- Mitchell has now recorded four multi-hit games in her last six outings.
- Senior Mandy Esman tallied two hits on the night, good for her 10th multi-hit game of the season and 29th of her career.
- Sophomore Isabel Cintron recorded a base hit on the night, extending her hitting streak to three games while totaling seven hits in her last three outings.
1st | Following Mitchell's double to deep right center, freshman RyLee Gardner followed up with a two out single to left field, plating Mitchell for the game's opening score.Â

3rd | After loading the bases via a pair of walks and a single, sophomore Ariel Redmond reached on an infield fielder's choice while scoring Mitchell to cut Houston's deficit to 8-2. On the ensuing pitch, Griffin produced a single to short, forcing no play to plate sophomore Maddie Hartley. Eyeing a 2-2 pitch, Esman delivered a single to center field, bringing Redmond home from second for a third run of the frame, cutting the gap to 8-4.

5th | After a leadoff single from Cintron, Griffin came back for more as she belted a two-run blast to deep center, cutting the deficit to 8-6.
