Houston clawed back from being down three, but couldn’t complete the comeback

TUCSON, Ariz. — The #29 University of Houston Tennis team's attempted comeback fell short falling 4-3 to #73 Arizona on Sunday afternoon at the LaNelle Robson Tennis Center.

The Cougars (11-1, 2-2 Big 12) dropped the doubles point as juniors Valeriia Krokhotina and Iva Sepa lost 6-1 to Josie Usereau and Maria Garcia on court two while juniors Petja Drame and Elizaveta Morozova dropped a heartbreaker, 7-5, to Tanvi Narendran and Martyna Ostrzygalo on court three.

#73 Arizona (9-7, 2-2 Big 12) marched out to a 3-0 lead as Usereau defeated freshman Alexia Lavinia Puiac, 6-3, 6-1, and Garcia dropped Drame, 6-1, 6-0 on court five.

Houston didn't give in a Morozova knocked out Ostrzygalo, 6-2, 6-4 on court one to get the Cougars on the board.

Krokhotina and senior Sophie Schouten each needed a tiebreaker in the second set to help Houston claw back to tie the match.

Krokhotina defeated Narendran, 6-4, 7-6(4) while Schouten outlasted Zoya Chulak, 7-6(5), 7-6(4)

Senior Chems Doha Zeghlouli was locked in a three-set battle on court three, ultimately falling to Ciara Moore, 6-3, 6(4)-7, 6-3 to clinch the match.
