PREVIEW: Cougars Set to Battle Texas A&M – Corpus Christi, Baylor

HOUSTON – The University of Houston Softball team is set to begin a seven-game road trip with midweek action against Texas A&M – Corpus Christi before facing Baylor in Big 12 play on the weekend.

The Cougars will face the Islanders on 4 p.m., Tuesday, in Corpus Christi, followed by a road conference series against the Bears on April 2-4 with game one set to start at 6:30 p.m., Thursday. The teams then meet again at 6:30 p.m., Friday, before a 2 p.m., Saturday, finale.

The Cougars enter the week ranked 71^st in the latest RPI, facing off against Texas A&M – Corpus Christi (223^rd) and Baylor (27^th). The Cougars have faced five opponents ranked in the RPI top 25 a total of 11 times this season, including a road victory over McNeese (Feb. 21) at 23^rd. Houston also has three wins against teams inside the top 50 in McNeese, Michigan and Kansas.
Houston leads the all-time series against Texas A&M – Corpus Christi 18-10, winning seven of the last 10 meetings.
The Cougars are 15-31 all-time against the Bears, having dropped each of the last 10 meetings.
Houston recently surpassed 50 home runs this season (currently 54) to become the fastest team in program history to achieve that feat, doing so in just 32 games. The Cougars beat the program record in 11 less games (2011 – 43 games).
The Cougars' 54 homers in 2026 ranks as the fifth most produced in a single season in program history, sitting behind 2008 (73), 2011 (67) 2003 (59) and 2005 (55).
The Cougars are currently ranked 20th nationally with 54 homers this season, ranking fourth in the Big 12 only behind Texas Tech (75), Arizona State (63) and Kansas (63).
Sophomore Maddie Hartley currently sits atop the Big 12 leaderboard in home runs this season with 15 on the year. Fellow teammate and junior Makenna Mitchell followed up just behind in a tie for second with 14 homers on the year.
Redshirt-senior Paris Lehman and senior Mandy Esman recently celebrated career milestones last week against Iowa State, reaching their 100^th career strikeout and 100^th career hit, respectively.
Sophomore Nevaeh Brown currently ranked sixth in the Big 12 in strikeouts with 68 on the season.
Sophomore Isabel Cintron ranks second in the Big 12 in runners caught stealing with six on the season, only four behind UCF's Beth Damon (11).

GAMEDAY CLEAR BAG POLICY
To provide a safer environment for the public and to significantly expedite fan entry into all of Houston Athletics competition sites, Houston Athletics has implemented the clear bag policy it implements at TDECU Stadium and Fertitta Center at the remainder of its facilities (Schroeder Park, Cougar Softball Stadium and Carl Lewis International Complex [soccer and track and field] and the Athletics Alumni Center/Yeoman Fieldhouse).

The following items are allowed inside all ticketed UH Athletics events:

Bags that are clear plastic, vinyl or PVC and do not exceed 12 inches x 6 inches x 12 inches
1-gallon clear plastic freezer bag (Ziploc or similar)
A small clutch purse no larger than 4.5 inches by 6.5 inches, with or without a handle or strap (These small clutches remain subject to search)

Exceptions will be made for medically necessary items after proper inspection at the doors by arena personnel. Items such as backpacks, purses and diaper bags are not permitted, and fans are strongly encouraged to not bring any bags to Houston Athletics facilities.
