Ragin’ Cajuns win pitchers’ duel behind surge in extra innings

HOUSTON – Houston Baseball dropped its first extra-inning contest of the season, 6-3, to #25 Louisiana at Don Sanders Field at Darryl and Lori Schroeder Park on Wednesday night.

Sophomore Kendall Hoffman (1-2) took the loss for Houston (12-8), ceding three runs in his first relief appearance of the year. Cody Brasch (2-1) picked up the victory for Louisiana (16-5) by tossing the last 2.2 shutout innings for the Cajuns.

Freshman Caden Cooper earned his first career appearance with five-or-more strikeouts.

The Cougars played in their first extra-inning game since April 9, 2025.

GAME SUMMARY
Houston grabbed the first lead of the game with a solo homer from junior Riley Jackson in the bottom of the second. Louisiana answered with a two-spot in its half of the third to take the lead.

After the Cajuns added another run in the fourth to take a 3-1 edge, the Cougars cut their deficit to one with an RBI single off the bat of junior Tre Broussard that drove home sophomore McClane Helton. Houston went on to even the score in the eighth as redshirt sophomore Xavier Perez scored on a single from senior Carsten Sabathia III.

Heading into the opening frame of extras, Louisiana jumped on its first opportunity. The Cajuns plated three runs in the top of the 10^th, with two being unearned due to a Houston error. The Cougars couldn't find the equalizer in the bottom of the frame, giving Louisiana the 6-3 victory.

UP NEXT
Houston plays its first Big 12 Conference road series as it heads to Kansas for a three-game set. The teams meet to start the weekend at 6 p.m. Friday and continue at 2 p.m. Saturday before a 1 p.m. Sunday conclusion.
