Tennis Sweeps Saturday Doubleheader

Cougars defeat New Mexico, 4-0, and UTRGV, 7-0
HOUSTON — The University of Houston Tennis team pushed its program-best season-opening sweep streak to seven with a doubleheader sweep of New Mexico and UTRGV at the Barbara Wallace Winston Tennis Facility on Saturday.
The Cougars opened the day with a 4-0 sweep before dropping UTRGV to the tune of 7-0.
Junior duo Valeriia Krokhotina and Iva Sepa defeated Bente Vandeputte and Yu Yun Tsai, 6-3 on court two, before #82 Sophie Schouten and Chems Doha Zeghlouli handled Viana and Vivica Corley, 6-2, on court one to clinch the doubles point.
Schouten opened the singles scoring as she defeated Ramona Petre on court six, 6-4, 6-2 while Krokhotina made quick work of Lea Malazdra on court five, 6-1, 6-4.
Zeghlouli clinched the match on court two with a 6-1, 4-6, 6-2 win over Vianca Corley.
In the second match of the day, #86 Elizaveta Morozova and Petja Drame shutout Valentina Urraco and Luna Buijtenhuijs, 6-0, on court one before #82 Schouten and Zeghlouli defeated Hitakamya Narwal and Barbara Martinez, 6-1, on court one to clinch the doubles point.
Schouten was again first to the finish line as she allowed just one point to Urraco on court six, 6-1, 6-0. Drame followed soon with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Mariia Bakhtina on court five.
Freshman Alexia Lavinia Puiac notched the second singles win of her career as she took down Narwall on court two, 6-2, 6-3.
Zeghlouli took care of business with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Rhea Makesar on court three, before Morozova took down Martinez, 7-5, 6-3, on court one.
After a slow start, Sepa fought back to take a 7-6(4) first set win before taking the second set, 6-3, over Buijtenhuijs on court four to complete the 7-0 sweep.
