PREVIEW: Tennis Continues Homestand Friday and Sunday

Cougars face UTSA at 1 p.m., Friday and SFA at 2 p.m., Sunday
HOUSTON — The University of Houston Tennis team continues its homestand as it hosts UTSA on Friday and SFA on Sunday at the Barbara Wallace Winston Tennis Facility.
The Cougars kick off the weekend Friday against UTSA at 1 p.m., and after a schedule change due to incoming weather, continue Sunday against SFA at 2 p.m. A stream for both matches can be found here, with live stats available here.
LAST TIME OUT
The Cougars maintained their perfect start to the season, sweeping New Mexico, 4-0 and UTRGV, 7-0 in a doubleheader at the Barbara Wallace Winston Tennis Facility.

Seniors Sophie Schouten and Chems Doha Zeghlouli won both of their doubles matches with Schouten, Zeghlouli and Krokhotina going perfect on the weekend.

Juniors Elizavata Morozova and Petja Drame helped capture the doubles point against UTRGV before freshman Alexia Lavinia Puiac, Morozova and Drame added singles points.

ABOUT HOUSTON
Houston enters its second season under the direction of Head Coach Katarina Adamovic and returns five starters from a season ago.

The Cougars are off to their best start since 2018 at 7-0. Houston has swept all seven opponents for the first time in program history.

Houston features a pair of new staff members in former Missouri women's tennis head coach Chris Wootton as an assistant coach and six-time All-WAC performer Santa Strombacha as a graduate assistant.

Houston added Chems Doha Zeghlouli and Petja Drame to its roster over the summer and welcomed Alexia Lavinia Puiac in December.

ABOUT UTSA
UTSA is 4-1 to open the season with their lone loss coming in a 4-3 defeat at Abilene Christian.

Doubles pairs Natalia Castaneda/Giuliana Giardina and Celine Absawi/Laia Tarazona Peyro each sport two wins on courts one and three, respectively. Aoka Nagasawa leads the Roadrunners with a pair of singles wins on court five.

Houston owns a 10-3 record against UTSA. The Cougars and Roadrunners meet for the fourth straight season with UTSA claiming the previous three meetings. Krokhotina and junior Iva Sepa were two of the three point scorers in last season's 4-3 loss in San Antonio, Texas.

SFA is 0-2 to start the season with 5-2 losses to Abiliene Christian and North Texas. Sonja Rooth is 2-0 on court three to lead the Ladyjacks. All three doubles pairs have one win on the season.

Houston sports a perfect 9-0 record against SFA with its most recent meeting being a 7-0 sweep in 2023 (Feb. 12). Schouten helped secure the doubles point and secured a singles point in the victory.
