Cougars wrap regular season at Utah and BYU on Thursday and Saturday, respectively
ORLANDO – The University of Houston Tennis team fell, 4-0, to #17 UCF on Saturday afternoon at the USTA National Campus.
The Cougars (4-13, 1-10 Big 12) kept things close early, but UCF (18-2, 10-1) pulled away as sophomores Valeriia Krokhotina and Heta Nuutinen fell to Olivia Bergler and Donatella Guarnieri, 6-1, on court three. The Knights clinched the doubles point on court two as Sophie Biolay and Jade Psonka defeated junior duo Sophie Schouten and Gabriela Cortes, 6-2.
After tight first sets on all courts, the Knights pulled away in the second set as they doubled their lead on court two where Nuutinen fell to Bergler, 6-4, 6-0.
UCF pulled within one point of clinching on court two as Biolay defeated sophomore Iva Sepa, 6-3, 6-1.
The Knights clinched the match on court four as Psonka defeated Krokhotina, 6-4, 6-1.
A pair of bright spots came when Schouten and Cortes took their first set from their respective opponents. Schouten downed Hannah Rylatt 6-4, and Cortes gutted out a 7-6(5) first set win.
