Houston gets revenge with victories against Pitt, Nevada
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Softball team bounced back with a pair of victories on the second day of the Easton Classic II at Cougar Softball Stadium on Saturday afternoon.Â

After securing a 4-3 win against the Panthers (5-4) to start the day, the Cougars (7-2) continued their success with a 6-1 victory against the Wolfpack (7-2).Â

GAME ONE – HOUSTON 4, PITT 3
While freshman Rylee Michalak earned the start, freshman Nevaeh Brown (2-0) picked up the win in relief, spinning 2.1 innings where she allowed just one run on one hit. Freshman Maddie Hartley (1) secured her first collegiate save, also tossing 2.1 shutout innings. Gwen Sparks (1-1) took the loss for Pitt, ceding four runs (three earned) on three hits and four walks.Â

1st | After Hartley reached base with a lead-off walk, Wells drove her fourth homer of her career to opposing field, putting the Cougars up by two early.Â

3rd | Pitt tied the game in the third. With a pair of runners on, the Panthers capitalized on a defensive miscue to plate a run, then scored another in the next at bat on a ground out to even the score at 2-all.Â

4th | Houston reclaimed the lead with two runs in the fourth. Sophomore Bethany Aguilar reached on a lead-off walk and junior Gabby Rawls put runners on the corners with a sacrifice bunt that forced an error. Freshman Madox Mitchael put the Cougars back in front with a single that plated Aguilar. A wild pitch later in the inning allowed Rawls to score as well, putting Houston up by two.Â

While Pitt cut the deficit to one in the fifth, Houston held on for the 4-3 win.

GAME TWO – HOUSTON 6, NEVADA 1
Gigi Solis (2-0) claimed the win in Houston's second game of the day. Earning the start, the sophomore spun six innings while allowing just one run on a solo homer in the sixth. Jessica McPartland (1-2) suffered the loss after permitting four runs – three being earned – on two hits and three walks.Â
