HOUSTON – University of Houston Softball Head Coach Chrissy Schoonmaker announced a pair of signings to the roster on Friday.
Â
Yanina Sherwood, P, UNLV
Hailing from Mill Creek, Wash., Sherwood spent two seasons at UNLV where she made 16 starts on 35 appearances in the circle while helping the Rebels to a 31-22 overall record and an 18-7 mark in Mountain West action. In the circle, she tossed 108 innings and 47 strikeouts in route to recording 11 wins, three saves, two complete games and a shutout last season.
Â
Through two seasons, Sherwood totaled 23 wins on back-to-back 10+ win seasons. She has pitched over 250 innings with three shutouts, four saves and 134 strikeouts in 67 appearances with the Rebels.
Â
Sherwood was also tabbed an All-Mountain West honorable mention as a freshman in 2025.
Â
Larisa Perez, INF, Texas A&M
An infielder from San Antonio, Texas, Perez played a pair of seasons at Texas A&M where she made 17 appearances with one start on an Aggie squad that went 38-19 and finished sixth in the Southeastern Conference. She tallied a pair of hits and RBIs along with eight runs on the year.
Â
In two seasons with the Aggies, Perez has appeared in 26 games.
Â
Sherwood and Perez will join a group of five newcomers next season in Houston, with the 2026 Class of Addison Otto, Frei Pizarro, Adrienne Thompson, Cayla Warner and Zamari Ball all having put pen to paper on National Signing Day last December.
