Women's Basketball Drops Battle at Stephen F. Austin

Kyndall Hunter drops 20 points against the Ladyjacks
NACOGDOCHES, Texas– The University of Houston Women's Basketball program dropped a hard-fought 82-78 battle against Stephen F. Austin on Monday evening inside William R. Johnson Coliseum.
The Cougars (2-2) were led in scoring with 20 points from redshirt senior guard Kyndall Hunter, including 10 in the fourth quarter. Freshman forward Jade Jones finished the evening with 14 points after dropping 10 in the third. Graduate forward Amirah Abdur-Rahim and senior guard TK Pitts contributed with 10 points each.
Stephen F. Austin (4-0) had three players in double figures. Myka Perry led the Ladyjacks with 20 points while Harmanie Dominguez recorded a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Cha Gardner posted 13 points against the Cougars.
Houston opened with energy as Pitts scored off a steal to put the Cougars on the board. Stephen F. Austin briefly answered with a 3-pointer, but a trip to the charity stripe pushed Houston back in front. After three ties and eight lead changes, Houston ended the quarter with a 21-20 lead.
Stephen F. Austin opened the second frame with a quick 5-0 run to take early control. Abdur-Rahim sparked a response along with Jones and graduate forward Amani Bartlett to keep Houston within reach. Free throws helped the Cougars pull even at 38, but the Ladyjacks secured a 43-40 lead into halftime.
Jones dominated in the third, going 5-of-6 from the field to score 10 against the Ladyjacks. A jumper from Jones and a pair of free throws from freshman guard Kayla King gave the Cougars a 60-54 lead with 3:09 remaining. Stephen F. Austin produced a 9-2 run to go up 63-62 at the end of the frame.
The Ladyjacks opened the fourth with a 10-0 run to extend their lead to 73-62. Following the media timeout, Hunter scored seven points during Houston's 13-2 run to even the score at 75.
Stephen F. Austin scored four points to give itself a four-point lead, but Hunter knocked down a 3-pointer to trim the deficit to one. A driving layup by Gardner and a free throw by Kemp made the difference to secure the victory.
