Moore homers, Cougars sweep Owls for first time since 2014
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Baseball team swept the Silver Glove Series with a 4-3 win against Rice on Tuesday inside Don Sanders Field at Darryl and Lori Schroeder Park.
The Cougars (16-12) recorded their second Silver Glove Series sweep since 2014 (established in 1998) and sixth-ever season sweep against Rice (9-20) when playing at least three games in a season.
Designated hitter Anthony Tulimero drove in his fourth run of the season on a single in the first inning. Tulimero ended the night with a season-high three hits.
The Owls scored two runs on three hits across the second and third innings to take a 2-1 lead.
In the fourth inning, right fielder Tristan Moore recorded his first hit as a Cougar, cracking a solo home run to tie the game at 2-2.
Houston tacked on back-to-back RBIs in the bottom of the fifth from second baseman Harold Coll and catcher Jonathan French giving the Cougars a 4-2 lead.
Sophomore pitcher Michael Benzor (1-0) recorded a career-high 2.2 innings on a career-high 42 pitches while not allowing a hit. The left-hander has not allowed an earned run in his 9.1 innings this season.
The Cougars finished the game with 11 hits, the first time tallying 10+ hits since March 16 at BYU. Houston pitchers have not allowed a home run in 10 straight games matching the second-longest stretch without a home run allowed since 2016 when the Cougars did not give up a home run over a 13-game span.

Houston goes on the road to face Texas Tech in a three-game series for the first time since 2020 Friday-Sunday at the Dan Law Field Rip Griffin Park in Lubbock, Texas. All three games will be streamed on Big 12 Now on ESPN+.
The Cougars' next three-game series at Schroeder Park is against Texas, April 12-14. Tickets are still available for the series.
