Cougars Pick Up First Big 12 Point, Falls to #32 Baylor

Houston hosts #7 Texas at 1 p.m., Friday and #20 Oklahoma 1 p.m., Sunday
WACO, Texas – Despite picking up its first point in Big 12 Conference play, the University of Houston Tennis program dropped a 6-1 road contest against #32 Baylor at the Hurd Tennis Center on Sunday afternoon.
DOUBLES
On court three, senior Laura Slisane and junior Maria Dzemeshkevich defeated Liubov Kostenko and Lauren Littell, 6-1.
Sophomore Gabriela Cortes and senior Blanca Cortijo Parreno dropped their match on court two against Miska Kadleckova and Zuzanna Frankowska 6-3, setting up a winner-take-all on court one.
The Cougars (1-9, 0-4 Big 12) claimed the doubles victory when sophomore duo Sophie Schouten and Sonya Kovalenko picked up their fifth doubles win of the season, as they defeated Sierra Berry and Zuzanna Kubacha, 7-6 (7-5).
SINGLES
The Bears (11-5, 4-0 Big 12) pounced quickly, sweeping the first two courts. Slisane dropped her match on court one to #101 Kadleckova, 6-0, 6-0. Court five featured Kubacha defeating Cortes, 6-0, 6-0.
On court six, Frankowska defeated freshman Nina Skoric, 6-2, 7-5, to put the Bears within one.
Baylor clinched the match when Kovalenko fell to Danielle Tuhten, 6-3, 6-3, on court three.
Dzemeshkevich put up a good fight in the first set on court four, but Kostenko won, 7-5, 6-2.
After taking the first set on court two, Schouten dropped the final match of the day to Berry, 6-3, 2-6, 4-6.

Houston returns to the Barbara Wallace Winston Tennis Facility to host #7 Texas at 1 p.m., Friday and #20 Oklahoma at 1 p.m., Sunday.
