Houston continues its homestand with match against UCF at 1 p.m., Saturday
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Tennis program returned to the win column after defeating Prairie View A&M, 7-0, at the Barbara Wallace Winston Tennis Facility on Thursday.
The Cougars (2-13, 0-8 Big 12) have not allowed a point to the Panthers (5-16, 4-2 SWAC) in 12 straight matches, and have only allowed a single point in 22 meetings (March 15, 2013).
DOUBLES
Houston took the doubles point by winning all three courts. On court two, senior Laura Slisane and junior Maria Dzemeshkevich defeated Andrea Pascual and Francesca Duca, 6-2.
After missing the last four matches with an injury, senior Blanca Cortijo Parreno made her return, along with junior Elena Trencheva by knocking off Amaya Bobadilla and Cierra Garcia, 6-1.
The Cougars took the final doubles court when the sophomore duo of Sonya Kovalenko and Sophie Schouten dropped Ainara Vegal and Victoria Castillo, 6-2.
SINGLES
Schouten started the scoring in singles as she defeated Vegal, 6-0, 6-1 on court three.
Sophomore Gabriela Cortes picked up a win on court six over Joanne Fernandes, 6-0, 6-1.
In her return to the singles line up, Cortijo Parreno handled Pascual, 6-2, 6-1, to clinch the match for the Cougars.
On court five, Trencheva picked up her first win of the season as she defeated Bobadilla, 6-3, 6-0.
Slisane made her debut on court two as she used a third set to defeat Castillo, 6-1, 4-6, 1-0 (10-1).
In her debut on court one, Dzemeshkevich knocked off Duca in three sets, 7-5, 2-6, 1-0 (10-4).

Houston continues at the Barbara Wallace Winston Tennis Facility to face #62 UCF at 1 p.m., Saturday.
The Cougars then welcome #1 Oklahoma State at 1 p.m., Friday, April 5, before wrapping up the home schedule against Kansas State at 11 a.m., Sunday, April 7, for senior day.
