Cougars Fall in Battle with #55 Knights

Houston hosts #1 Oklahoma State and #75 Kansas State beginning Friday
HOUSTON - The University of Houston Tennis program dropped a back-and-forth battle, 4-2, against #55 UCF at the Barbara Wallace Winston Facility on Saturday.
DOUBLES
The Cougars (2-14, 0-9 Big 12) earned their second doubles point in Big 12 Conference play as sophomores Sophie Schouten and Sonya Kovalenko defeated Noel Saidenova and Anique Kattenberg, 6-4, on court one.
Senior Laura Slisane and sophomore Gabriela Cortes secured the doubles point against Donatella Guarnieri and Anya Ambarish, 6-4, on court three.
SINGLES
UCF (7-10, 4-5 Big 12) took the first singles point, when junior Elena Trencheva fell short against Kattenberg 6-1, 6-2.
After UCF evened the match, Cortes put the Cougars back in front by taking the match against Ambarish, 6-2, 6-1, on court six.
Freshman Nina Skoric forced a tiebreaker and extra points, but fell to Guarnieri, 7-6 (6-1), 7-5, on court five.
On court two, Sophia Biolay defeated Schouten 7-6 (6-3), 3-6, 6-2, to put the Knights within one point of clinching the match.
In a close match, senior Blanca Cortijo Parreno won the first set, 6-4, over Jantje Tilbuerger, but fell in extras in the second, 7-5. After a 4-4 tie, Tilbuerger took the next two points to secure the match for UCF.
UP NEXT
Houston is set to host #1 Oklahoma State at 1 p.m., Friday, and #75 Kansas State at 11 a.m., Sunday, April 7, for senior day at the Barbara Wallace Winston Tennis Facility. The Cougars will honor Laura Slisane and Blanca Cortijo Parreno for their accomplishments.
Admission is free for all home Houston Tennis matches.
