Houston Drops Thursday Opener

Cougars allow season-high 21 hits, 14 runs
FORT WORTH, Texas – The Houston Cougar baseball team dropped the series opener at TCU on Thursday night 14-1 at Lupton Stadium.
TCU (18-7, 3-7 Big 12) had traffic on the base paths in each of the first three innings, including in scoring position in two of those frames, but Houston's left hander Antoine Jean (2-2) erased each threat with timely outs.
The Horned Frogs plated the first two runs of the game in the fourth inning on a bases loaded two out single. A two-out double cleared the bases and TCU ended the fourth with a 4-0 lead.
Houston (15-10, 4-6 Big 12) got its first base runner of the game in the fifth inning on a single by right fielder Tre Jones. The Cougars tallied a pair of hits in the eighth inning but stranded a pair in scoring position.
The Cougars got on the board in the ninth inning on a solo home run off the bat of senior Jonathan French, his team-leading seventh home run.
UP NEXT
Houston stays in Fort Worth for the second game of the series at 6:30 p.m. on Friday night with the game streamed on Big 12 Now on ESPN+. The series finale is slated for 2 p.m. on Saturday from Lupton Stadium.
The Cougars' next three-game series at Schroeder Park is against Texas, April 12-14. Tickets are still available for the series.
