PREVIEW: Cougars Face Off Against #71 West Virginia and Cincinnati

Houston takes on West Virginia at 4 p.m. CT Friday, and Cincinnati at 11 a.m., CT Sunday
MORGANTOWN, W. Va. – The University of Houston Tennis program travels outside of Texas for the first time this season when it takes on #71 West Virginia and Cincinnati starting Friday.
The Cougars (1-11, 0-6 Big 12) face the Mountaineers (12-5, 1-4 Big 12) at 4 p.m CT., Friday from Summit Tennis Academy in Morgantown, W. Va. Houston follows up with a match against the Bearcats (6-7, 0-5 Big 12) at 11 a.m. CT, Sunday at the Trabert-Talbert Tennis Center in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Seniors Blanca Cortijo Parreno and Laura Slisane, and sophomore Sophie Schouten lead Houston in singles with three wins each. In doubles, sophomore Sonya Kovalenko and Schouten pace the Cougars with five wins on court one.
West Virginia is led in singles by Maja Dodik with an 11-4 record. In doubles, Dodik and Maya Bordereau are 10-2, with five wins apiece on courts two and three.
Rozalia Gruszczynska leads the Bearcats in singles with six wins. Partners Morgan Pyrz and Sakurako Watanabe hold a 6-2 record, with four wins on court three.
LAST TIME OUT
The Cougars dropped a pair of matches by 0-4 decisions to #7 Texas and #21 Oklahoma, on Friday and Sunday, respectively.
SERIES VS WEST VIRGINIA
The Cougars and Mountaineers will meet for just the second time in program history on Friday.
Houston meets Cincinnati for the seventh time in program history, holding a 5-1 advantage over the Bearcats. Houston has won the last three meetings, all by a score of 4-0.
In their last meeting, the Cougars took the doubles point after Slisane and partner Mimi Kendall-Woseley took a 6-2 win on court one. Cortijo Parreno claimed the first singles point on court six, 6-1, 6-1 (March 14, 2021).
