Cougars return to conference play, host K-State for first time since 2009
HOUSTON – For the first time since 2009, the Houston baseball team will host Kansas State – now in a Big 12 Conference series – as the pair face off Friday-Sunday at Schroeder Park.

- Houston won the final game of the season-opening series in 2009 in extra innings.
- The Cougars won the first-ever meeting in 2004.
- Houston is 0-1 in three game series' against Kansas State (2-1 KSU in 2009).
- Associate Head Coach Ross Kivett is a Wildcat graduate (2014).
- With a win, Houston will have won its 2,000th game in program history.
- Second baseman Harold Coll set a career-best with five RBI on Saturday against BYU, driving in two on a home run and then a three-RBI double in the eighth inning.

- Right-handed pitcher Duncan Howard has not allowed a walk in four starts this season. He is the only pitcher in Division I that has not allowed a walk this season.

- Houston was perfect in extra-inning games in 2023 (6-0) and is 1-1 so far this year after playing two extra-inning games at the Astros Foundation College Classic.
- Murray's three-double performance against Louisiana was the first three-double game by a Cougar since Lael Lockhart Jr. at Memphis on 4/13/17.
- Second baseman Harold Coll broke the Astros Foundation College Classic record for stolen bases in a game when he swiped a career-high three bags against Louisiana.
- Right-handed pitcher Jaxon Jelkin was named to the Astros Foundation College Classic All-Tournament team after striking out eight hitters in 5.1 innings.
- Houston's 27 runs against Prairie View were the most since 1993 when the Cougars scored 27 against Illinois State.
- The Cougars' 27 runs against Prairie View are tied for the second-most runs scored in a game in program history.
- First baseman Justin Murray had his 22-game hitting streak snapped against UTSA. It matched Brett Cooley's 22-game hit streak back in 2002.
- Murray and shortstop Jake Rainess were named NCBWA Preseason All-Americans. Murray was named Second Team Utility while Rainess was tabbed Third Team Shortstop.
- The Cougars have won 1,999 games in program history.
- A two-run eighth inning propelled Houston to the Silver Glove Series win over Rice on Wednesday.
- Over the first two games of the series, the Cougar pitchers held the Owls to just three runs on six total hits.
