Tennis Falls in Battle of the Cougars

Houston heads to TCU and #30 Baylor on Friday and Sunday
HOUSTON – In a battle of the Cougars, the University of Houston Tennis program fell, 4-0, to #45 BYU at the Barbara Wallace Winston Tennis Facility on Saturday.
Houston (1-7, 0-2 Big 12) hits the road for its first Big 12 Conference road match when it travels to TCU at 3:30 p.m., Friday, at the Bayard Friedman Tennis Center in Fort Worth, Texas. Houston then meets #30 Baylor at 2 p.m., Sunday, March 10, at the Hurd Tennis Center in Waco, Texas.
The doubles point needed all three courts after BYU's Kaavya Sawhney and Bobo Huang defeated junior Maria Dzmeshkevich and senior Laura Slisane, 6-0, and the sophomore duo of Sonya Kovalenko and Sophie Schouten took down Kendall Kovich and Emilee Astle, 6-2.
BYU (10-1, 2-0 Big 12) clinched the doubles point on court three as Kara Wheatley and Tina Li mounted the comeback against junior Elena Trencheva and senior Blanca Cortijo Parreno, 6-4.
BYU added to its lead on court two when Li defeated Schouten, 7-6(7-1), 6-2, and Slisane dropped her match to #71 Huang, 6-3, 7-5.
Astle clinched the match for BYU on court five when she outlasted freshman Nina Skoric in a three-set thriller, 6-2, 5-7, 6-0.
