Houston Falls to UT Arlington

Cougars open inaugural Big 12 Conference play against Texas Tech on Thursday
HOUSTON – The University of Houston Tennis program fell, 4-1, against UT Arlington at the Barbara Wallace Winston Tennis Facility on Saturday afternoon.
In doubles, junior Elena Trencheva made her 2024 debut with senior Laura Slisane as her doubles partner, falling to UT Arlington's Francisca Veraga and Bruna Casasampere, 6-2. The Mavericks (7-3) clinched the doubles point as Sarina Reinertsen and Ana Paula Jimenez defeated sophomore Gabriela Cortes and senior Blanca Cortijo Parreno, 6-1.
On court six, UT Arlington picked up another point as Casasampere took down sophomore Sonya Kovalenko, 6-1, 6-1.
Houston's (1-5) lone point of the afternoon came as Cortijo Parreno defeated Veraga, 6-1, 6-1, on court five. This marked Cortijo Parreno's second-straight match picking up a singles point.
The Mavericks earned back-to-back points as Mariana Manyoma-Vela took down Cortes, 6-4, 6-2, and Reinertsen forced a third set to defeat sophomore Sophie Schouten, 2-6, 6-4, 6-2, to clinch the match.

The Cougars open their inaugural Big 12 Conference slate as they host Texas Tech at 1 p.m, Thursday followed by BYU at 11 a.m., Saturday.
