Houston Hangs Tough, Falls 4-2 to Louisiana Tech

Cougars take a week off before returning against USTA, Friday, Feb. 23
HOUSTON – Despite winning their third doubles point of the season, the University of Houston Tennis program dropped a 4-2 decision to Louisiana Tech at the Barbara Wallace Winston Tennis Facility on Monday.
In doubles on court one, the sophomore duo of Sophie Schouten and Sonya Kovalenko defeated Olga Bienzobas and Alexia Romero, 6-3, for their third win of the season. On court three, senior Blanca Cortijo Parreno and sophomore Gabriela Cortes knocked off Zoie Epps and Tiffani Nash, 6-2 to secure the doubles point.
Cortes earned the only other point for the Cougars (1-3) by taking her match on court five against Epps, 6-3, 6-4.
The Bulldogs (6-3) evened the match as Bienzobas defeated senior Laura Slisane, 7-5, 6-4 on court one, and Nash knocked off Kovalenko, 6-2, 7-5, on court three.
Rodrigues clinched the match for Louisiana Tech as she snuck by junior Maria Dzemeshkevich 7-6 (7-5), 6-4.

Houston takes a week off before hosting UTSA on Friday, Feb. 23, at 1 p.m., and UT Arlington on Saturday, Feb. 24, at 1 p.m.
The Cougars then open their inaugural Big 12 Conference slate as they host Texas Tech Thursday, Feb. 29 at 1 p.m. and BYU on Saturday, March 2, at 11 a.m.
Admission is free for all home Houston Tennis matches.
