Cougars roll to fourth straight victory with Sunday results
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The University of Houston Tennis program recorded its fourth straight win of the season with a 7-0 victory against Stephen F. Austin on Sunday from the Schlief Tennis Complex.
Houston (5-3) started the day off strong against Stephen F. Austin (2-2), taking the doubles point and sweeping singles play.
For a fourth match in a row, Elena Trencheva and Sophie Schouten were victorious in doubles, this time knocking off Alkmini Giannakogiorgou/Jemma Cave, 6-1. The Cougars clinched the doubles point after Blanca Cortijo Parreno and Laura Slisane defeated Zala Ule/Felicia Back, 6-2.
In singles action, Schouten earned Houston its second point of the day by dominating on court five with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Carolina Chiatti. This marked Schouten's fifth singles victory on the season.
The Cougars continued their dominance against the Ladyjacks as sophomore Maria Dzemeshkevich defeated Ksenia Mamontova 6-2, 6-3 on court one. On court three, Slisane gave Houston the 4-0 lead after three sets against Cave, 3-6, 6-1, 6-3.
Senior Azul Pedemonti picked up the fifth point for the Cougars on court four after three sets against Back with scores of 6-0, 5-7, 6-1.
After two difficult sets against Giannakogiorgou on court two, Trencheva came out on top taking both sets, 7-6, 7-5.
After dropping the first set on court six, Cortijo Parreno roared back to assure the sweep for the Cougars topping Elena Bleicher, 5-7, 7-6, 10-6.
The Cougars are now 9-0 all-time against the Ladyjacks.
UP NEXT
Houston will travel to Lafayette, La., to face Nicholls, 11 a.m., Saturday followed by Louisiana at 11 a.m., Sunday.
The Cougars will return to the friendly confines of the Barbara Wallace Winston Tennis Facility to face Louisiana Monroe on Saturday, Feb. 25 at 11 a.m.
