
Cougars Fall Short in Beaumont

Houston continues on road Thursday against Louisiana
BEAUMONT, Texas – The University of Houston Soccer program dropped its first match of the season to Lamar, 3-0 on Sunday evening from LU Soccer Complex in Beaumont, Texas
Houston (0-1-1) and Lamar (1-0) both tallied 12 shots on the night, while the Cougars had a 9-8 advantage in shots on goal. Forward Anna Reysa led the Cougars with four shots, with three on target.
Midfielder Madison Gear had Houston's first opportunity of the evening but Lamar's goalkeeper Nicole Panis made the save preventing the Cougars from getting on the board.
Lamar (1-0) would answer back in the ninth minute of action when Lamar's Christine Kitaru scored off a header that found its way to the back of the net giving the Cardinals a 1-0 lead.
The Cougars continued to look for the equalizer in the 44th minute with midfielder Caitlyn Matthews' shot hitting the crossbar sending the match to half time.
Lamar's Cariel Ellis found the back of the net in the 59th minute on a breakaway giving the Cardinals the 2-0 advantage over the Cougars. Almost 10 minutes later, Lamar's Kitaru found the back of the net for a second time in the 68th minute giving the Cardinals the 3-0 victory.
