Houston defeats TCU for the first time in 24 years

HOUSTON — The University of Houston Soccer team defeated TCU for the first time in 24 years behind a 2-0 performance on Thursday evening at the Carl Lewis International Complex.

The win is the fifth for Houston (9-3-4, 5-2-1 Big 12) in conference play, matching its conference win total in 2021.

The Cougars took an early lead in the 20th minute when junior Jada Arthurs scored her second of the year, on the delivery from sophomores Bailey Cate and Samira Minor.

Senior Adelhia Ghonda got an interception in the attacking third, dishing it off to senior Ava Shannon who's rocket past the TCU goalkeeper found the bottom left corner in the 65th minute.

Houston's press held TCU (5-8-1, 2-6 Big 12) to just two shots on target. The shutout was the seventh of the year for the Cougars and the fifth clean sheet on the season for junior goalkeeper Sierra McCluer.
