Three players score in double-digits in 64-59 loss to Tulane

Blair, Onyeje and Young tally double-digit points in MLK Day matchup
Laila Blair led the Cougars (9-8, 2-3) with 13 points to go with four rebounds and three steals. Britney Onyeje closely followed with 12 points and Tiara Young added 10.
First Quarter
The two teams fought it out through the first quarter. Houston took a 4-0 lead but it was quickly matched with a 9-2 run by the Green Waves to take the lead 9-6. The Cougars tied it up at 9-9 with an Onyeje 3-pointer but Tulane again took the lead and closed the quarter ahead 18-13.
Second Quarter
Back-to-back layups from Young and Kamryn Jones brought the game within one point at 18-17 to open the quarter. Houston kept the game close but was not able to take the lead and the quarter ended with Tulane ahead 33-25.
Third Quarter
Tulane continued on its scoring streak with a 10-0 run in the third quarter to take a double-digit lead at 50-36. The Green Wave maintained its lead and closed the quarter at 55-43.
Fourth Quarter
Houston found momentum in the fourth going on a 9-0 streak to open the quarter, bringing the game within three points. The Cougars took its first lead since the first quarter with a layup from Young making the score 59-57. However, Tulane kept Houston scoreless in the final minute of the game and sealed the 64-59 win.
UP NEXT
The Cougars continue their home stand with a Wednesday contest against Cincinnati at 6 p.m. in the Fertitta Center.
