Houston, Tulane face off Tuesday
CLEARWATER, Fla. – The No. 7-seed Houston Cougars open American Baseball Championship play at 3 p.m. CT Tuesday against No. 2-seed Tulane from BayCare Ballpark in Clearwater, Florida. The contest can be seen on ESPN+ and heard on Stretch Live.
Houston is making its seventh appearance in the event. The Cougars own a pair of AAC Tournament titles (2014, '17) and have played in four of the league's six title games (2014, '15, '16, '17). Houston's 16 wins in the AAC Baseball Championship are the most in the league.
For the seventh time, The American Championship, taking place Tuesday through Sunday, is being held at the Spring Training home of the Philadelphia Phillies. All games, excluding the championship finale (ESPNews), will be streamed on ESPN+.

Tuesday marks the 95th all-time meeting between Houston (19-32) and Tulane (28-22). Houston holds a 51-43 advantage (dating to 1986) but dropped 3-of-4 earlier this season. Houston is 4-1 in five American Baseball Championship meetings against Tulane.
As the No. 7 seed in the American Baseball Championship, Houston is looking to become the lowest seed ever to win the event. The lowest seed to win the AAC Tournament in six years is fourth-seed East Carolina in 2018.
Houston and Tulane are matched up with No. 3-seed Wichita State and No. 6-seed USF in the bracket. The winner of the two games will play Thursday evening, 47 following the conclusion of the day's opening game. The two losers will face off in an elimination game Wednesday evening, 47 minutes following the conclusion of the day's opener.
Tulane is looking to bounce back after being swept at Cincinnati last weekend. Offensively, the Green Wave rank second in the league in on-base percentage (.379) and doubles (94). Tulane's pitching staff is second in strikeouts (509) and third in ERA (4.36).
